Rule

A Brady violation requires: (1) the evidence is favorable to the accused; (2) the evidence was suppressed by the prosecution, either willfully or inadvertently; and (3) prejudice (materiality) — there is a reasonable probability that disclosure would have produced a different result.

Significance

Articulated the three-element Brady test; clarified that materiality under Brady is the same as reasonable probability of a different outcome.
